The Junior Welfare League of Rock Hill hosted its Spring Dinner on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Rock Hill Country Club where four local organizations were awarded funds.
Current President, Lauren Powell along with the 2011 JWL Chair, Melinda Reid, presented Tender Heart Ministries with the Junior Welfare League’s gift of $48,000. All money was raised during the Junior Welfare League’s 8th Annual Spring Market, the JeWeL of the Carolinas, held this past April. Tender Heart Ministries provide shelter and education to homeless single women and women with children. The awarded funds will be used by Tender Heart for an educational building that will offer a wide variety of educational opportunities such as GED, financial training, parenting classes, job interview and resume writing training.
Money raised at Twice is Nice, a boutique of gently used clothing and household goods, operated by the Junior Welfare League, was awarded at the Spring Dinner as well. Julie Sweatt, the 2010-2011 Twice Is Nice Chair, presented the small grants. The Rock Hill School District Back the Pack Program received $5,000 to purchase supplies needed, such as packaged food that is distributed to students that are identified with a need.
York County Christian Women’s Job Corps received $300 that will go towards a family camp, being held this summer. Steppin’ High received $2,000 that will be used to provide new shoes and socks for children of low income families in York County.
Beth Rose, the 2012 JeWeL Chair announced Rock Hill Parks Foundation as the recipient of funds raised during the 9th Annual JeWeL of the Carolinas Spring Market, to be held
April 12-14, 2012. Rock Hill Parks Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable fund whose purpose is to enhance our community’s quality of life by improving and preserving park facilities, programs and ongoing leisure service needs.The funds raised by the 9th Annual JeWeL of the Carolinas Spring Market will be used by Rock Hill Parks Foundation to renovate College Downs Playground with new modular play unit and bonded rubber safety fall surface.
